Why I like having a Doorbell Camera

A while ago my husband wanted to replace our doorbell with one of those fancy ones with a camera that connects to the wifi and comes with all the fancy bells and whistles. (Pun intended) We discussed the safety features with us both being gone so much. The ease of use for when he doesn’t hear the doorbell and his phone will alert him instead. The need to replace the old one since it randomly chose when to chime. The unique features of alerting and recording motion at the door. We even discussed the price and the pros and cons of different kinds of video doorbells.

Well, after installation I was super annoyed with the number of notifications I would receive. The husband tried to fix the field of view and stop so many alerts but it didn’t seem to matter. I eventually decided to just turn off notifications unless someone rings the bell. I don’t think I really answer those anyway because I’m usually busy when they come through. Pretty much it turned into a really expensive doorbell that only got my attention at home.

After a few months of wedded bliss we used the rest of our gift money to purchase a beautiful new grill. Due to a previous situation with the neighbors next door, we decided to install a motion sensor light with a camera that goes along with our front doorbell. This way if someone messed with our new grill, we would have it on camera. It made us both feel a little better about the purchase being safe. So, we set it up and were once again annoyed by all the notifications. My favorite notifications so far are the moths that climb over the sensor and camera in the middle of the night. They could be used in a horror film! Plus I have to go through the app to turn on the outside light, or open the door and set the motion detector off.

Well, now the reason why I REALLY like having the cameras…

Living in Colorado we often get snow storms. Some are predicted to be horrible and turn into nothing, some are nothing and turn to something, and still yet some actually live up to their forecast. So, when it is cold and the blankets are so cozy and warm I don’t feel like getting out of bed but I think I hear a snow plow, I pull up the cameras to check the weather. For example, it is the end of October and we are on our third snow storm! Today I’m out on a snow day and enjoying warm blankets and trying to convince the dog she really doesn’t need outside. I’ll have to bundle up later and walk her. I’m sure she won’t let me go all day without it.

That’s right friends, I use our expensive doorbell cameras to see how bad the weather is. Or to watch the dog not want to come back in for the husband who let her out

Miss Sunshine in the snow as seen from my phone while cozy in bed.
(She wasn’t wanting to come back in for the husband lol)
