Update

Being a mom doesn’t seem like a full time job… until you add in chasing the hours of sleep you need to catch up on. If I didn’t need a nap, daily, I would be SO much more productive! I could probably work two more jobs! …part time ones of course…

But alas, sleep is important and I never seem to sleep more than 3 hours at a time. That means the “sleep when the baby is sleeping” is rule #1! Well, more like “pump while the baby is sleeping then nap” but still…you get the idea.

So of course it catches up with me once in awhile and I just can’t. Yesterday was one of those days. Afternoons are usually our strong nap times but he went all day with only cat naps! Except the one in the morning when I was walking and then working in the garden. By the time 3:00 rolled around I was struggling and he was refusing sleep. When Hubby came home I tapped out and went to bed.

I slept, and slept hard, for a couple hours. Slept right through my pumping time and would have slept longer if my boobs could of waited. I probably could have slept all night! I came out of the bedroom to pump and of course the Little Man slept the whole time too… thanks kid! Sleep for Dad…

Otherwise the mom job is pretty great! I think my favorite part is watching Little Man discover everything. I was running water in the sink to get it warm and he was just fascinated! It was the cutest thing. He is just shy of 3 months and already has amazing control of his neck. He likes sitting up (with some assistance) and talking. He even likes to pull himself up into standing! I will sit with him in my lap and hold his hands/forearms to help him sit up and then he will pull on them and stand up. He gets so excited about it too.

Overall we really do have an easy baby, so far. No colic (so far, fingers crossed) and is pretty happy. I’ve learned the signs of when he is getting tired and can get him down for a nap with minimal fuss. He has his routine that follows a loose schedule. He is also getting quite the adorable personality! I’m not sure how much he knows what face he is making but he is stinkin cute!

We do bath time, or butt soak time, nightly to help with diaper rash and have set clear rules for the bathtub. We figured if we started early then the rules would just always be there and he would follow them. Plus it just gives us something to chat about during bath time. We have three rules so far and go over them every night.

Rule 1: Don’t drown.

Important and self explanatory.

Rule 2: No poop in the bathtub.

Mainly because I don’t want to clean that mess. I clean up poop all day long with diaper changes, I don’t need to clean the tub because of it too! Peeing isn’t encouraged, but it is harder to control. So that is what it is…

Rule 3: Only use a little soap.

Because kids always seem to use more soap then they should. Starting him young on this one so hopefully it sinks in…

During butt soak time the other night he farted!

Instantly I got the cutest, sneakiest look from him. He scrunched up his shoulders and everything. Like he knew he was pushing the boundaries on Rule #2! He kept the look so long I had time to grab my phone and take a picture.

Guarantee he tries to use his looks, and big blue eyes, to get out of trouble. Hopefully my years of keeping a straight face at students while scolding them for inappropriate behavior (while laughing on the inside) will pay off.

So, overall we are doing good. Milk production is up so we aren’t supplementing any more. I’m able to decrease my number of pumps in a day so that helps with naps. Little Man is a happy baby most of the time. The only time his world is ending and he must tell everyone is still wet diapers.

Now to figure out how to operate on less sleep so I can get back to blogging more and maybe do some housework.
