My Purpose

“The opposite of depression isn’t happiness, it is purpose.”

I was listening to a Goal Digger podcast by Jenna Kutcher the other day and they mention “developing” your purpose and she used the above quote. The quote really stuck with me but so did the use of the word “develop” instead of “discover.” Your purpose isn’t something that needs to be found but instead it is already a part of you and you work on building and developing it. Then, you use that purpose to build a career. And purposes and careers can change!

It really got me thinking… what is MY purpose?

Yeah, yeah, yeah… I teach students. I’m working on becoming a mother. I’m a wife. I’m creative. All that and then some!

But that’s who I am, not my purpose.

Most who know me in real life know I struggled with being a teacher last year. I was ready to be done in the field of education. A lot of events added up and life was just rough. Then one night I was tutoring a former student as my side gig and realized I was meant to stay working with kids but needed a change. So I switched schools and now could write a novel about differences between middle school and high school teachers.

So, in the middle of all my soul searching I decided to try blogging as a way of journaling. I did some research which of course led to Facebook ads on the topic. I noticed one for a free class to get started and I leaped! Here we are…

The hardest part of getting started was picking my niche. What is my blog about? I figured either education and teaching science or just everything. (Hopefully you’ve figured out which one I’ve gone with.) Writing about teaching science, sharing cool ideas, sharing resources, and more would be awesome but I feel like it is time to learn more of who I am outside the classroom. Plus my passion for teaching comes and goes these days. My passion for helping students is always there but not so much dealing with all the other stuff. As I told my students last year, the day I no longer believe they can change is the day I no longer belong in a classroom. Otherwise, I’m there for them.

So I guess my blog is more about me doing all the things I do. As a teacher. As a (soon to be) mother. As a wife. As a person. As me. And as a reader you get to follow me on my journey of developing my next purpose in life, whatever that may be. Maybe it is teaching? Maybe it is something else? Maybe it is teaching but in a totally different way?

Welcome to my journey where I am sometimes shy, bold, clever, crafty, and creative. You could almost say I’m an Inventive Fox… 😉
